A Tribe Called Quest – Beats, Rhymes & Life

The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
Michael Rapaport

Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels or A Tribe Called Quest is a documentary about one of the most influential and groundbreaking music groups in the history of hip-hop. In the course of eight years they released five albums that became either gold or platinum. The group was very successful commercially and artistically very influential and was regarded as a pioneer in the hip-hop world. The sudden breakup of the group in 1998 was a shock to the music industry and the large fan base.

In 2008, the band will give a series of sold-out concerts in the US as part of a reunion. During the trip with the band members, Michael Rapaport records how difficult their mutual relationship has become and how personal differences and conflicts cast a shadow on their creative collaboration.

When growing tensions cause an outburst during a San Francisco show, we gain insight into what is at stake for childhood friends and colleagues and which creative and personal journey they have made as a bond.
